The Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication Pune was set up in 1991 and has been a leading media and communication education & training institute since then.The Institute offers the undergraduate course of B.A (Mass Communication).
It is a full time three-year degree course, divided into six semesters. Each year has two semesters. It is recognised not only in all parts of India but also throughout the world.
The students are free to take up post graduation studies including MBA (Masters of Business Administration) after a BA( Mass Communication).
They are also eligible to sit for any competitive examination requiring graduation as an eligibility. It is a well-integrated programme which is multi- disciplinary in nature.

Teaching Methodology
​
SCMC's method of instructing its students in both the theoretical and practical aspects of mass communication has produced students who not only excel academically but also respond swiftly to professional challenges .
Since the media course gives equal weightage to theory and projects, there is liberal use of the OHP and LCD along with the blackboard. Groups are formed who work on projects and assignments. A lot of group discussions take place on current issues.

Several guest lectures are organized to equip the student with variety of skills and to enhance interaction with the outside world of media.
Workshops are conducted on public speaking, interviewing and resume writing skills. The Students are motivated and guided to take up summer placements.
Evaluation Pattern
Like other degree courses where the candidate is evaluated largely on the basis of a single written examination at the end of the year, a system of continuous evaluation is followed here.
Every aspect of learning in the form of assignments, projects, quizzes, discussions, written examinations and class participation carry due credit in this courses:

Classes will be of 120 minutes duration each

There will be 3 Classes every day, followed by practical sessions.

Every Semester will be of 16 weeks duration, with examinations conducted in the last week.

The BA (Mass Communications) degree course will comprise a total of 100 credits. Each credit will be equivalent to 50 marks.

Internship
​
After the end of the semester, trainees will execute field projects for 8 weeks, which will include two internships the first one at the end of the fourth semester, and the second at the end of the sixth semester.

The students will take up assignments in any media related organisations. Working with prominent media firms, advertising agencies, news channels, etc. will give them the confidence and the professional expertise to build enough self-confidence to plunge into the professional world with their talent.
All in all , the course aims at training students to achieve a high level of competency so as to enable them to have an added advantage over the other graduation courses
Intake, Fees & Eligibility Admission Process

A total of 120 students shall be admitted to the B.A (Mass Communication)

Fees-The annual fees for the programme including the hostel and mess fees is approximately Rupees 4,00,000/-p.a

A candidate for being eligible for admission to the degree course of B.A (Mass Communication) should have passed the class 12 examination from either the Arts, Science or Commerce stream securing not less than 50 percent marks in aggregate at the first attempt.

Round 1: The Student has to take the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET-General)

Round 2: Based on the scores in SET the candidates are shortlisted for Round 2. The Candidates shortlisted for 2nd round are required to be present in SCMC and appear for a 3-4 hours assessment consisting of a test of writing abilities, studio test, personal interaction and document verification.

Preparation for the Entrance Test, Group Discussions and Personal interviews
The competition is quite severe and like all competitive examinations, the candidates will have to hone their writing skills, media knowledge, current affairs, etc. to stand a good chance of being selected in Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication In order to prepare well for the written test and personal interview, the student should track the current trends in different media, have extensive discussions on various issues related to current affairs and media with like-minded candidates, and also solve the previous years' papers.
