BA (Media and Communication)

The emergence of Manipal School of Communication was in response to the phenomenal expansion of media. The objective was to train competent skillful professionals and equip them with the latest technology.

​

Beginning 2000, the institute cradled a unique integrated course in media studies and combined it with the right blend of computer application skills as well as a firm background in social, behavioural and political sciences.

 

Students with 10+2 of school education from any stream are eligible to enroll into this programme, which is for duration of six semesters. The student is invited to understand the dynamics and structures involved in interpersonal communications, group communication, mass media productions and mass audience.

 

Theoretical inputs along with the practical skill training during the course prepares the student to take up entry level position in the media industry. The programme is intended for those anticipating building a career or propose higher education in media research, journalism, broadcasting or public relations or branch out into allied areas of management studies.

Facilities

​

Manipal School of Communication has extensive facilities for the mass media students:

​

  • Computer Labs equipped with more than 25 terminals for multimedia applications The labs have all the software required for the print and multimedia presentations

  • Audio Lab fitted with the latest professional multi track digital recording and editing facility. Portable field recording units are also available for outdoor recording. 

  • Video Lab with latest digital camcorders ,edit systems etc

  • Library  is well stocked with magazines , professional books, journals etc.

Subjects and Teaching Methodology

​

Since the Mass Media course gives equal weightage to theory and projects, students are continually evaluated on workshops, projects and assignments.

 

A lot of group discussions take place on current issues. The students are kept abreast of the latest developments in the field of media. Students are exposed to subjects like Visual communication ,Television , Radio , Communication , English Literature ,Computers , Reporting , Editing , History , Culture Internet ,Films , Sports Journalism etc Students learn a foreign language and are also required to do a project on graphics and animation .

 

Eligibility

A candidate for being eligible for admission should have passed the class 12 examination of the Maharashtra Board of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent, from the Arts, Science or Commerce stream securing not less than 45 per cent marks in aggregate.

 

Students with Arts subjects will be given preference

​

About the Manipal Entrance Test

​

Admissions are done on the basis of an all India Manipal Entrance Test(MET).

 

The test will be of 2.00 hours duration and carries 400 marks.
