Maths is a subject to be studied with complete dedication. It needs a lot of practice on a daily basis to excel in the subject.
Students preparing for any Competitive Exams have to do Maths as most of these exams have Maths as a compulsorily component of the entrance exam. So as a student you cannot omit Maths from your curriculum.

What to Study :
Make list of all the topics. Refer previous year papers to know which topics are included and their topic wise weightage.

Practice :
This might sound cliche but practice is the only way to excel in Maths. Even if you do 1 sum in 2 hrs for a particular topic, make sure you understand it. Maths is all about concepts. Make sure to practice Maths for a specified time(min 2 hrs) everyday, without fail.
Step 4:
Tips & Tricks :
Don't depend too much on shortcut tricks as the shortcut for one sum might not be applicable to another. Go for shortcuts only after you've practiced sufficient sums in the proper way.
